Argentina get off to winning start in ICC Americas event

The ICC Americas U19 Division 2 tournament, finally, saw a day of sunshine and host Argentina, made full use of the conditions against the erratic Chilean bowlers winning the game by 201 runs.
Playing at Lomas, Argentina won the toss, and elected to bat first, having, recovered from 140 for 8 in 30 overs, to amassed a total of 262 for 9 from 50 overs. The top order batsmen wasted the opportunity, to punish the wayward Chilean bowlers, who continue from the abandoned game on Monday and sent down 79 wides, and 10 no balls in the innings.
For the home team Lautaro Musiani, and Augusto Mustafa, with 24 and 21 respectively threatened, but were both out within the space of eight runs.
It was only until the ninth wicket partnership between Santiago Irioyen, 37, with three fours and two sixes together with Paras Tulsiani , who hit one four and a six, that the host took full control of the innings.
In reply the visitors, had no answer to the Argentine bowlers, and were eventually 61 all out, with man of the match Martin Rost taking 5/13 from seven overs.
Chile lost wicket with constant regularity, and only captain, Hector Fuezalida, reached double figures scoring 14.
The Argentines bowlers will have some work to do as well, conceding 25 extras in the modest Chilean innings.
In the day's second game favorite Suriname went down to Belize by 37 runs. Belize won the toss and elected to bat, but soon found themselves in trouble at 23 for 3.
Opening batsman Herbert Banner carried his bat through the innings, to be not out at the end, on a well played 75, with five fours and a six, he was supported by Emmanuel Mc Fadzean, the only other batsman to reach double figures.
Mcfadzen joined the well set Banner with the total on 48 and together they, carved out a magnificent fourth wicket partnership that yielded 123 runs.
The pair looked likely to give the team a total of 200 plus but, after McFadzen was out in the 46 over with the score on 171 his personal , contribution 54, only 16 runs were scored from the remaining overs.
The best bowler for Suriname was Ramario Ramjiawan with figure of 5-19.
In reply, only Suriname captain Giovani Gokoel with 59 runs gave any resistance to the Belize bowlers and were all out for 140 runs.
Man of the match was Emmanuel Mc Fadzean from Belize.
Play continues tomorrow with, host Argentina taking on Suriname in the game of the day at Belgrano and Belize against Chile at Hurlingham.
