Raj S. Narain, President of the Suriname Cricket Association, is confident of a good show in the Pepsi ICC Americas Division 2 event and looks at the tournament as a platform to raise the profile of the game in his country.

"For the development of cricket in our country, I believe it is very important to win and qualify to Division 1," he said. "Qualification will mean more promotion of the game and also more funds from the government and private sector to develop the sport."

The defending champions have been training well in advance for the tournament and has also played practice matches with Guyana ahead of the event. He said: "I believe that our team unity and motivation will help us top the event. Captain Shazam Ramjohn, wicket-keeper Troy A. Dudnath and batsman Vishaul Singh will be expected to play a key role in the tournament."

"However, we did not have much practice as a team together, which can be a concerning factor. After being part of the Pepsi ICC WCL Division 7, I expect our team to rise up the ranks and play at the highest level in the next four years," he added.
