As we move another day closer to the Pepsi International Cricket Council Americas U19 Division 2 Championships we turn our attention to an ever improving Suriname squad.
Suriname will be captained by wicketkeeper/batsman Jerome Bonar. Bonar is the life of the team, chirping away behind the stumps in support of his bowlers. A competent batsman, Bonar's form in the tournament will not doubt set a precedent for the rest of the Suriname team.
Co-Captain, Akash Basropansingh, is a tough opening batsman who will no doubt test each of the opening attacks he faces this tournament. Basropansingh is well known for his exquisite stroke play and attacking nature and will be looking to assert himself early.
Josh Holder and Leandro Moekamat will spearhead the Surinamese Bowling attack. These two quicks have developed significantly over the last 12 months and are should have successful tournaments. Their combination of swing and bounce will be tough to exploit early in the innings.
These two will be supported by Darsan Persaud. Persaud is the number 1 spinner in the Suriname squad and will be looking to bamboozle opposition bats with his leg spin. Slowly mastering his control, Persaud will be a tough competitor who should provide excellent battles through the tournament.
This Suriname side come to Nassau with huge expectations and many unknowns. Captain Jerome Bonar said “Our goal is to win this tournament and elevate to division one”. We'll wait to see if the Suriname team can live up to these expectations.
