Mirza and Taylor open up for ICC Americas in Warm up match in Barbados
ICC Americas played a warm up match today against a Barbados Development XI, coached by former West Indies test player Pedro Collins, at their adopted home of Windward Cricket Club. This was their only game during the preparation camp for the WICB U19 Tournament.
The hosts won the toss and elected to bat first but were soon pegged back by two wickets from Manny Aulakh who used the new ball to good effect. After that captain Steven Taylor used 10 bowlers as he looked to give all the bowlers a go with a view towards Sundays first tournament match. Wickets fell at regular intervals with Josh Gilbert bowling nicely for 3-20 and Hamid Shahid bowling well at the end of the innings and finishing with 3-14.
In reply Steven Taylor fell early swishing at a wide one and Cameron Mirza was just looking settled when he was out for 16. Akash Shah played a patient innings of 29 to steady the innings but at 100-5 it was in the balance. However Ramsammy 39no and Leverock 27no played very well and never gave the home side a chance to get back into the game and saw the innings through for a deserved 5 wicket victory.
Coach Andy Pick said “we played well in large parts of the game but there are areas needing attention if we are to challenge the teams in the tournament. Leverock and Ramsammy were excellent in the way they batted through and saw us home”
