USA Women's captain Durga Das is confident her side has what it takes to shock Canada in this week's ICC Americas Women's World Cup Qualifier.
Das and her team-mates take on the Canadians on their home pitch in a three-match series at Maple Leaf Cricket Club in King City, starting Tuesday (July 13) and finishing on Friday.
The victors will go through to represent their region in the global ICC Women's World Cup Qualifiers in Bangladesh next year.
Das leads her team into action feeling hopeful they will rise to the occasion in daunting circumstances.
"[We have an] explosive combination of experience and youth," said Das. "As captain, I believe every one of the 14 selected team players are worth watching as they all bring their individual talents to the game."
The USA skipper is well aware of the significance of coming out on top against their local rivals over the next three 50-overs clashes.
She said: "[It would be] a tremendous boost as this would certainly put the USA on the women's world cricket map and that will open doors to media, interest amongst youth, schools and funding that is essential to growing this sport."
Das revealed her cricketing inspiration is India legend Sachin Tendulkar and she will be looking for his playing ethos to filter through to the USA women's team over the next few days.
"[I admire] Sachin Tendulkar for his longevity in the game, his strong motivating presence in every game he plays, his ability to let his bat do the talking and earning respect amongst peers."
A triumph in this three-match series would certainly earn Das and her team respect within the ranks of USA cricket.
